7-Series Family Overview
The 7-Series Product Family is the latest state-of-the-art single-chip high-definition transcodec from Magnum Semiconductors. The 7-Series family offers complete SoC solutions of chips, platforms, and software for consumer applications including DVR, Blu-ray Disc Players and Recorders, BD Receivers, and Set-Top Boxes, as well as high-performance broadcast encode, decode, and transcode functions in production, contribution, and distribution applications.
The 7-Series device is a digital media processing chip which includes media processor and multiple MIPS cores for multi-standard encode, decode and transcode of high-definition compressed and encrypted digital audio-video media. The programmable media processor provide a flexible tradeoff between conversion speed and quality, while the MIPS cores provide high-performance audio and a robust application platform.
In consumer applications, the media processors enable operating scenarios involving multiple concurrent HD decodes and transcodes for the most demanding concurrencies. Multi-chip operation is also possible to provide superior broadcast-quality HD encoding and transcoding, including 1080p60 encode and dual-pass HD encoding in real-time.
The 7-Series performance enables decoding of up to 2 streams of 1080p60 content. The media processor supports decode, transcode, transrate, and encode of multiple HD bit streams in H.264, Mpeg2, VC-1, Mpeg4, and DV formats.
SoC integration for consumer application includes a complete suite of AV interfaces (including HDMI and Analog DACs), storage interfaces for NAND flash, flash cards, and SPI flash, along with low speed serial and GPIO interfaces. High-bandwidth interfaces including Ethernet, SATA, USB, PCI Express, and IEEE 1394 support bulk data communication. Support for conditional access is provided by POD-CI and smart card interfaces along with on chip security features to protect digital content from unauthorized access.
Broad software support is provided for both the low-level functions of encode, decode, and transcode, as well as the high-level application functions for BD and DVR models. LINUX, OpenGL, a comprehensive set of APIs, and fully-functional sample applications provide a robust development platform for leading-edge products.
